Monarto Concrete Marathon 1
The concrete gods were looking after us at our first Concrete Marathon here at the Monarto Karting Complex.
We had lots of shovel support for our TWO screeders, (Michael and Ray didn’t stop all day). Check out the photos - and you will see, Michael was a blurrrr in most shots.
I was a bit late and arrived to a well lit site at 6:40 to find equipment already being set up and ready for the 7:00am load from Direct Mix.
And then it started. They sent another, followed by another and had another truck ready to go at 8:30.
The crew caught up and set up for the balance load of about 2 cubics, but somehow ordered a full load (lots of Keen Karters) and knocked off the rest of the 3 metre front panel on the North Grid.
And the concrete kept coming – man the barra’s, add a bit of creative concreting and you will see what happened next time you visit the track.
Other projects included:-
Sweeping the track by our junior broom patrol. (big job but the quad bike helped to keep em going)
Sorting all the steelwork and cladding for the future clubrooms (big job, many hands but not so light work).
Re-tensioning the Judges Palace support structure.
Moving insulation batts into the Judges Palace.
Sorting and cleaning out the containers. Who said they didn’t have a floor in them.
Lots of talking and planning and ideas.
The support for these project was fantastic. Many thanks to the members, friends & Committee of GKCSA and Dublin who gave up their time and energy to make this happen.
Lots of fun with lots of people doing lots of work together, pushing towards a common goal to get our track ready for everyone to enjoy.
I can only say thanks again from all the Karters in SA for a job well done and for joining in and making another piece of history for our great clubs.
Regards GregS
For the Monarto Karting Complex
Ps: Thanks also to all those who wanted to be there today but couldn’t, (you know who you are), but don’t worry, the plan is to have the Monarto Concreting Marathon 2 at our next Working B on Sat August 7. Just keep an eye on the GKCSA website for more info. See you there.

From the GKCSA President...
I would like to start by echoing the disappointment expressed at the AGM regarding the turnout at the meeting on the 9th of July. Of 91 memberships and some 160 members, only 15 people were present.
I would also like to reiterate that all members sign a section of their membership form to indicate that they have read and understand the rules of our club. These rules are in place for both safety and insurance reasons.
I want to see this club move forward. Although the track surface is now laid and we are racing on it, there is still a lot of work to be done. I was nominated and subsequently elected President of this club for the passion and enthusiasm that I have shown towards making the facility that we now have something great. I can not do this by my self. Whether you can contribute a full days work at a working bee or you sweep the rocks that get dragged on to the track on a practice day. Every little bit helps and is appreciated.
The suggestion of having a priority jobs list was raised at the AGM. It is my intention to action this suggestion as soon as possible. Keep checking the website for updates and if you are able and willing to contribute either time or resources, please let us know.
I would like to finish by saying that I am excited about the challenges that are ahead of me and I am looking forward to working with all of you to make this club as great as it has the potential to be.

COME & TRY KARTING on Sunday 7th June '09 At The Monarto Karting Complex was Fantastic & A Huge Success.
The Weather was not so kind on the Sunday afternoon, with the skys opening up and a massive downpour came. After waiting enough time for the track to dry up....the karts were allowed back on the track. With the huge smiles seen on the faces of the people as they got out of the karts, it was seen that the 2 days were a great success. And with over 130 people trying out karting, it certainly was a busy few days. Photos below (click to enlarge)
THANK YOU to all that came & helped out over the days.
Your help was much appreciated!
