Weekend Wrap Up - October 9-10th, 2010
It happened again. Mad Matt and I ran out of holes last Thursday up around the top of the ACCESS CIVIL LOOP on the people fence. But then along came PHD Pete, Sunday (yes, Bathurst Sunday) and popped in the last of the south fence holes and a further 70+ holes for the North and South pit spots. This has defined the access roadways with a 9m wide access each side of Parc Ferme from the breakdown lane fence to the West property boundary fence.
From the entry gate there is now a 12m wide main access following the west boundary fence (keep left on entry), providing easy access to both 9m pit access roadways and eventually continue on up Mount Dublin to the elevated carpark. The changes will confuse some, and others will follow, but try to avoid running into the posts (they are going in this weekend at the Giant Working Bee) or falling into any holes (not all holes are marked with tyres).
The other choice when you enter the track is to turn hard right and travel the boundary up past the toilets, through the old Ambulance park to check out the excellent track viewing opportunities provided by the new fence up around the ACCESS CIVIL LOOP. Drive up and park around the fence for an excellent front row seat.
Most of the site has been mowed again and Big John has had the RED out for a test mow – thumbs up to Mad Matt (without a doubt the most experienced mower mechanic at Monarto – he might not tell you why, but ask anyway). John went into cruise mode and mowed the lot. But its left about 500m of whipper snipping to finish it off – that’s one of the big tasks next weekend, so if you have a tough weed trimmer, throw it in for the weekend.
Hamish and Paul dropped it to help Johnny B relocate all the steelwork from the track fence to the boundary and put together a Paint Crew Plan for the Judges Palace steel structure at Giant Working Bee, so the Northern viewing area is back to safe easy access. Tony dropped off more toys for Big John and now he has slashed the rest of the pit spots down the northern end and run a muck on Mt Dublin.
I’m going off to organise all the gear for the Giant Working Bee on the 16 & 17th October.
Hope to see you there so we can make our track “Sparkle”
Regards GregS
PS bring a friend and have some fun – you never know if you don’t ask.

Weekend Wrap Up - Sept 18-19, 2010
People Power – That’s what we need!!!!
Stage 1 of Track View (through to the top of ACCESS CIVIL) is progressing well. We fell short on the 200+ tyre bundle project (people power was a bit light on) but it has momentum. We ran out of holes on Thursday in the rain but PHD Pete said he will fix our problem with the holes.
We did notice only 3 posts left, but PHD Pete said he will fix that too – probably next Sat Sept 25th (another working bee). A fresh tyre bundle was placed at each post and a couple even got their second bundle. Then we released the entertainment (after helping with the tyre bundles), the Booths had a practice session in their gearbox kart – looks good, sounds good – it’s definitely a good workout – very busy.
The track beautification rolls on (mowing). Several riders finished most of the track off – add another inch of rain and we can do it all again. Jordan also mowed the South Safety Fence line in preparation for the People Fence construction soon. Lucky John B has been busy on Mt Dublin. Someone gave him a 20 tonne excavator to work with, he’s havin a ball (I hear he has more equipment on the way). The base prep is nearly finished for the construction of the service yard (our containers will be backed into the side of Mt Dublin with a 15 m gap between them and a chain mesh fence & gates across the front). This will trigger the “Whole of Site” cleanup and the final pit layout will be close to complete.
YoYo had his crew in on Friday and all the prep work and footings are in for the new toilet and wet areas building – frame and bracing will be up soon. Out Grid access had 30 tonne of scalps spread and compacted to provide excellent access from the rear of the grid (no rocks there)– chain mesh will be complete by October 9th That’s all for now – Looking forward to more sunny weekends

Monarto Concrete Marathon 1
The concrete gods were looking after us at our first Concrete Marathon here at the Monarto Karting Complex.
We had lots of shovel support for our TWO screeders, (Michael and Ray didn’t stop all day). Check out the photos - and you will see, Michael was a blurrrr in most shots.
I was a bit late and arrived to a well lit site at 6:40 to find equipment already being set up and ready for the 7:00am load from Direct Mix.
And then it started. They sent another, followed by another and had another truck ready to go at 8:30.
The crew caught up and set up for the balance load of about 2 cubics, but somehow ordered a full load (lots of Keen Karters) and knocked off the rest of the 3 metre front panel on the North Grid.
And the concrete kept coming – man the barra’s, add a bit of creative concreting and you will see what happened next time you visit the track.
Other projects included:-
Sweeping the track by our junior broom patrol. (big job but the quad bike helped to keep em going)
Sorting all the steelwork and cladding for the future clubrooms (big job, many hands but not so light work).
Re-tensioning the Judges Palace support structure.
Moving insulation batts into the Judges Palace.
Sorting and cleaning out the containers. Who said they didn’t have a floor in them.
Lots of talking and planning and ideas.
The support for these project was fantastic. Many thanks to the members, friends & Committee of GKCSA and Dublin who gave up their time and energy to make this happen.
Lots of fun with lots of people doing lots of work together, pushing towards a common goal to get our track ready for everyone to enjoy.
I can only say thanks again from all the Karters in SA for a job well done and for joining in and making another piece of history for our great clubs.

Ps: Thanks also to all those who wanted to be there today but couldn’t, (you know who you are), but don’t worry, the plan is to have the Monarto Concreting Marathon 2 at our next Working B on Sat August 7. Just keep an eye on the GKCSA website for more info. See you there.
